Surgery Instructions

Instructions Before Surgery

The Georgia Lithotripsy and Laser center (GLLC) would like your procedure to be as efficient as possible and have included below a list of instructions to help with this. A few days before your scheduled procedure, our staff will contact you to confirm the date and time of your visit, to review your medical history, discuss your instructions, and answer any questions you may have. Please call us at (706) 543-2718 ext. 230 if you have not heard from us by the day before your procedure. Additionally, our staff will discuss any insurance issues and forms to be completed to make your visit run as smoothly as possible.

Eating or Drinking

PLEASE DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR SURGERY. However, taking your normal medicines with a small sip of water is OK.

Medications

Take your usual medications with a sip of water on the morning of your surgery. If you take insulin, then you should only take half the regular dose that morning. Other medicines for diabetes that are taken for diabetes by mouth (for example, metfromin, troglitazone, etc.) should be held if taking them on an empty stomach. Coumadin, plavix, aspirin, or other blood thinning medications should not be taken for one week prior to most procedures, be sure you have discussed these with your doctor to give you specific instructions for taking these medications. Also, be sure to bring a list of your current medications.

Medical Problems

Please report any changes in your health (even a cough, cold, or fever) to our staff. If you have new medical diagnoses (for example, high blood pressure), a recent hospitalization, or other surgeries, please let our staff know.

What To Wear

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Please leave all your valuables at home so they are not misplaced. It is OK to shower or bathe the morning of your surgery.

Smoking

PLEASE DO NOT SMOKE AFTER MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR SURGERY. Smoking can increase breathing problems after conscious sedation or other anesthesia.

Pregnancy

All women of child-bearing age may need to take a pregnancy test prior to any x-rays or certain procedures. If you suspect you may be pregnant, please notify our staff.

Transportation

If you are receiving conscious sedation or other anesthetic, then you will need someone to drive you home afterward and we recommend you have an adult that is able to stay with you for the remainder of the day and that night
